LA County Parks & Recreation Needs Assessment Community Meeting #1

Release Date: 2016-01-05

The City of Long Beach is participating in a comprehensive parks and recreation needs assessment being conducted by the County of Los Angeles. The public is encouraged to participate in a community meeting in Long Beach to ensure that the voices of the community are heard regarding priorities for future park development and rehabilitation.

Access to well-maintained parks increases physical activity among children and adults, which is key to good health. Teens who live near parks are 30 percent more likely to get recommended amounts of physical exercise. Physical activity improves general health, prevents obesity and diabetes, reduces the risk of hypertension, reduces the levels of attention deficit in children, improves cognitive ability, and reduces aggressive behavior.

Community Meeting #1
Wednesday, January 6, 2015
6:30 - 8:30 PM
Veterans Memorial Park
Community Center
101 E. 28th Street
Long Beach, CA 90806

The meeting schedule is available on the City’s Parks, Recreation and Marine Department web site – www.lbparks.org – and on L.A. County’s website – www.LACountyParksNeeds.org – which has a tool where community members can enter their address and be shown the meeting closet to their residence. The County’s website also accepts online feedback for residents who are unable to attend a meeting.
